MILO W. BEKINS

 

Milo W. Bekins, president of Bekins Van & Storage Company, was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on December 21, 1891. He is the son of Martin and Katherine (Cole) Bekins. Graduated from Polytechnic High School at Los Angeles, California.

Mr. Bekins was a partner in the Bekins-Speers Motor Company, automobile sales agency, in Los Angeles and San Francisco, California, 1908 to 1916. He has been president of Bekins Van & Storage Company of California since 1917, with offices throughout California. Also director and officer of Bekins Subsidiary Companies, Bekins Van Lines Company, an interstate van company operating in all of the forty-eight states, with head offices in Chicago, and Bekins Van & Storage Company of Arizona and Texas.

In addition to the above he is also president of Bekins Household Shipping Company of California; president of Bekins Packing Corporation of California; director of Douglas Aircraft Company, Inc., of Santa Monica, California, since 1945; director of Citizens National Trust & Savings Bank since 1933; director and chairman, State Highway Committee of California State Chamber of Commerce.

Past president of California Moving & Storage Association, National Furniture Warehousemen’s Association, and Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce.

Member at large of National Council of Boy Scouts of America, and director of Region 12; member and director of California Club; member of Los Angeles Country Club; member of Bel-Air Bay Club, and other civic and cultural organizations.

Mr. Bekins married Dorothy Eloise Watson of Los Angeles (birthplace—Birmingham, Alabama) in 1917 and has four children: Barbara (Mrs. Pettee), Virginia (Mrs. Daum), June E. and Milo W., Jr. There are six grandchildren.
