NORMAN A. BAILIE

 

Norman A. Bailie, lawyer, was born in Ontario, Canada, on January 2, 1877; son of John and Margaret (Taylor). He was educated in the public schools and Goderich Collegiate Institute, Canada.

Mr. Bailie came to California in 1895 and taught in the public schools of San Bernardino County for three years, and San Bernardino High School for seven years. He studied law while teaching and was admitted to practice on May 13, 1905; admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States on October 5, 1931.

In 1907 he removed to Los Angeles, California, and was in law practice there for a few months with the firm of Shankland & Chandler; then with Gray, Barker & Bowen; and Flint, Gray & Barker for six and one half years; he then formed a partnership with William A. Bowen and practiced under the firm name of Bowen & Bailie from 1916 to 1919; practiced alone from 1919 to 1924. On January 1, 1924 he formed a partnership with Richard A. Turner and Frederick W. Lake, under the firm name of Bailie, Turner & Lake, which partnership continues to present date.

He is a member of the Congregational Church; State Bar of California (member of Board of Governors, 1933-36; president, 1934-35), American Bar Association, Los Angeles Bar Association (president, 1930-31); B.P.O Elks No. 99, Los Angeles (Exalted Ruler, 1921-22); Wilshire Lodge No. 445 F. and A.M.; Los Angeles Consistory 32nd degree K.C.C.H. Al Malaikah Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S.; Honorary member of Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity; Los Angeles Country Club and California Club.

He finds recreation in golf, hunting and fishing.

Mr. Bailie married Charlotte Farner on September 20, 1900. Their children are Margaret Bailie Macdonough and Dorothy Bailie Baker. The family residence is at 1649 Buckingham Road, Los Angeles 6, California.
