JOHN LELAND ATWOOD
John Leland Atwood, president of North American Aviation, Inc., was born October 26, 1904, in Walton, Kentucky. He is the son of Elmer Bugg and Mabel (Bagby) Atwood.
He graduated from Hardin Simmons College in 1926 with an A.B. degree and from University of Texas in 1928 with a B.S. degree.
Mr. Atwood was junior aeroplane engineer for Army Air Corps, Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio, from 1928 to 1929; design engineer for Douglas Aircraft Company, Santa Monica, California, from 1920(sic) to 1934; vice president and chief engineer for North American Aviation, Inc., from 1934 to 1938, vice president and assistant general manager from 1938 to 1941, first vice president from 1941 and 1948, and has been president since 1948.
Fellow Institute of Aeronautical Sciences; member of Society of Automotive Engineers; member of Tau Beta Pi Fraternity; and belongs to the Baptist Church.
Mr. Atwood married Allene Goodnight on June 28, 1928, and they are the parents of one daughter, Marian. Their home is at 201 Chadbourne, West Los Angeles, California.
