ALLEN THURMAN ARCHER

 

Allen Thurman Archer, insurance broker and counselor, was born January 4, 1889, in Sedalia, Missouri; son of Richard Pinckney and Belle (Macdonald) Archer.

From 1904 to 1907 he was a student at Occidental Academy, Los Angeles, California; then attended University of Southern California, graduating with the LL.B. degree in 1910.

Mr. Archer has been president of Allen T. Archer Company, insurance brokers and counselors, at Los Angeles, California, since 1921.

During the First World War he was commissioned second lieutenant and served as a pilot with the Army Air Forces. Also has served on various War Bond Committees; chairman of special groups including social, fraternal and service organizations, clubs and professional groups, in Los Angeles and during the Second World War.

Mr. Archer was president, in 1946, of the National Association of Insurance Brokers, Inc., and member of the Board of Directors, 1945 to 1948; president of Insurance Brokers Society of Southern California in 1944; president of Town Hall of Los Angeles in 1943; honorary fellow, University of Southern California 1838 to 1952; member of Board of Directors of Friends of Colleges of Claremont, 1938 to 1951; member of the California State Board of Education from 1928 to 1935; president of General Alumni Association, University of Southern California, 1927-28.

Member of the Masonic Order (Scottish Rite, Shriner); and member of the following clubs: California, Los Angeles Country, Stock Exchange (Los Angeles, California); and The Beach (Santa Monica, California).

Mr. Archer married Violet McIlwraith on June 25, 1924, and they have three sons, David, John and Richard.
