CHESTER
B. ANDERSON
Chester
B. Anderson, partner in the law firm of
Anderson, Adams and Bacon, 4100 North Rosemead Boulevard in Rosemead, was born
in Cuba, educated at universities in the United States, and has practiced law
in Los Angeles since 1937, and in Rosemead since 1958. In the 24 years of law practice, Mr. Anderson
has been a successful Attorney at Law and a dedicated Republican. Since 1958 he has also entered into active
community and civic work throughout the San Gabriel Valley.
Mr.
Chester B. Anderson, born December 4, 1910, in Camaguey, Cuba, is the son of
Robert B. Anderson and Luella W. Anderson.
The senior Mr. Anderson was an American Consul in Cuba about the time of
his son’s birth. He had a number of
business interests in Cuba, and later went into the sugar business. He practiced Optometry, and opened the first
optical business in Cuba, outside of Havana.
Young
Chester B. Anderson attended the American Mission School in Camaguey, Cuba, up
to the eighth grade. He continued his
education in the United States. After
going to high school in Wabash, he graduated from high school in Charlottesville,
Indiana. He attended De Pauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, and law school of Southwestern University in Los Angeles,
California. Although Mr. Anderson
studied in the United States, he returned to Cuba every summer to spend his
vacations, until he entered law practice in 1937.
Mrs.
Anderson’s name is Mary Anderson. They
have three grown children. Mrs.
Bernadette C. Chapman is married to a lawyer, and lives with her husband and
two children in Santa Barbara. Mrs.
Grace A. Niles is also married to a lawyer.
The Niles have three children and reside in
South Pasadena. Mrs. Mary A. Lonsdale
lives in Van Nuys with her husband, who is a school teacher, and their two
children. The Anderson’s are members of
the Presbyterian Church, and Mr. Anderson is an elder in the church.
In
1937 Mr. Chester B. Anderson opened his own law office in the Rowan Building in
downtown Los Angeles, where he practiced law until 1958. He organized a partnership with two
associates under the name of Anderson, Adams and Bacon. The law firm is located in Mr. Anderson’s own
building at 4100 North Rosemead Boulevard, Rosemead, California.
Active
in the Republican Party, Mr. Anderson was a member of the Los Angeles County
Republican Central Committee from 1942 to 1944.
He was secretary of the Los Angeles County Republican Assembly in 1946. From 1942 to 1948 he served on the board of
governors of the California State Republican Assembly. He has been active in various Republican
campaigns for Congress and assisted the Party in many capacities.
His
activities in civic affairs include the presidency of the Property Protectors
Federation. He was chairman of
sustaining membership of Boy Scouts of America (Los Angeles Area Council) in
1954 and 1955, and past president of El Sereno
Betterment Association. His service club
connection is with the Kiwanis. Mr.
Anderson is past president of El Sereno Kiwanis Club,
past president of Valley Portal Kiwanis Club, and past lieutenant governor of
Kiwanis International (Division 10). He
is also past president of San Gabriel Valley High Twelve Club.
Fraternally
he is a member of Eastgate Masonic Lodge, Al Malaikah
Temple Shrine, Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley Shrine Club.
Mr.
Anderson enjoys the mountains, and he enjoys traveling. He has combined this with public speaking and
his interesting avocation, the intensive study of the history of early
California. He has given talks and
lectures about early California history and about his travel experiences to
almost all of the service clubs in southern California, as well as to churches,
lodges and to women’s organizations.
