ELLEN L. ANDREWS

One of the representative young women who have won recognition in club circles in Los Angeles through ability to cope with conditions that usually confront those earnest workers who try to better conditions of those with whom they are associated, as well as the general public, is Ellen L. Andrews. She was born in Pasadena, California, and is the oldest daughter of Lewis W. and Abbie (Crane) Andrews, the former one of the distinguished lawyers in Los Angeles. Miss Andrews attended the Cambridge grammar school and took the high school course in the Westlake school for girls, and then spent two years at Wellesley College. Returning to California she entered Stanford University and was awarded her Bachelor of Arts degree upon completion of her courses, and later she acquired her Master of Arts degree from the University of Southern California.

Intellectual activity has always made a strong appeal to Miss Andrews, who has been a very comprehensive reader along many lines, and she has been very active in social, civic and club affairs. She is a member of and has served in some official capacity in th Ebell Club, of which she is a life member; the Women’s University Club, also a life member; the Women’s Athletic Club; Town and Gown Club; and the Stanford’s Women’s Club; and she is on the membership committee of the Bel-Air Bay Beach Club. In civic affairs she has devoted a great deal of time to the Los Angeles Art Association; the Philharmonic Orchestra and Hollywood Bowl Association; she takes a very active part in the following charitable associations: the Community Chest, the Children’s Hospital and the Nine O’clock Players of the Assistance League. Miss Andrews is very broad minded and has spent a great deal of time in travel about the world, thus giving her a very comprehensive view of both the old world and new world conditions. She has made her life of value through her activities to advance those interests which contribute to the cultural progress and uplift of the individual.
