ROBERT EVANS
ALEXANDER
Robert Evans Alexander, architect, was born November 23, 1907, in Bayonne, New Jersey, son of Edwin H. and Clara Evans Alexander. Received his B. Arch. at Cornell University in 1930.
Mr. Alexander was designer in various architects’ offices from 1928 to 1935; then partner in Wilson Merrill & Alexander, Los Angeles, from 1935 to 1940; partner in Alexander Risley, Witmer and Watson from 1939 to 1942; partner in Witmer, Watson and Alexander from 1941 to 1942; one of the architects for Baldwin Hills Village, Estrada Courts, 1939 to 1942; assistant to works manager, Lockheed Aircraft Corporation 1942 to 1946; practicing under his own name since 1946, architect for Baldwin Hills School and Shopping Center UCLA Elementary Demonstration School; in partnership with Richard J. Neutra since 1950.
Mr. Alexander was a member of the Los Angeles City Planning Commission fro 1945 to 1951 and president of the Commission from 1948 through 1950. Member of American Institute of Architects, American Society of Planning Officials and Tau Beta Pi, Honorary Engineering Society.
Consultant to Technical Assistance Administration, United Nations Mission to India, 1951; consultant, Public Housing Administration, Washington, D.C., 1950, consultant with Mr. Neutra to Government of Guam since 1951.
On June 13, 1931 he married Marie Eugenie Vigneron and they have two children: Lynne and Timothy Milne.
