HUGH S. MacKINNON

 

 

            Hugh S. McKinnon is an able and representative young attorney of Calexico who also maintains offices in Los Angeles as a member of the firm of Lavelle & MacKinnon.  He was born in Oak Park, Illinois, December 21, 1900, the only child of Thomas and Ida (Sanborn) MacKinnon, who are natives of Michigan and Illinois, respectively.  The father is now a resident of Berkeley, California.

            Hugh S. MacKinnon acquired his early education in the grammar and high schools of Oak Park, Illinois, and received his more advanced intellectual training as a student at the University of California at Berkeley.  Subsequently he entered Stanford University, from which he was graduated with the Bachelor of Arts degree in 1923, and the same institution also conferred upon him the degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence.  Admitted to the bar in 1924, he practiced alone in San Francisco for a period of eighteen months and then went to Los Angeles, where he became associated with the Title Insurance & Trust Company.  He is now successfully engaged in law practice at Calexico, where he has held the office of city attorney for six years, and is also a member of the Los Angeles law firm of Lavelle & MacKinnon, with offices at 411 West Fifth Street.  His is a member of both the Imperial County and California State Bar Associations and enjoys an enviable reputation among his professional colleagues and contemporaries.

            In 1924 Mr. MacKinnon was united in marriage to Miss Frances Belknap, of Modesto, California, and they are the parents of four children:  Dorothy, Thais, Donald and Hugh S., Jr.  Mr. MacKinnon is identified with Lodge No. 1382 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.  His many good qualities render him popular, and personal worth, profession ability and public-spirited citizenship have gained him firm hold upon the high regard of his fellow townsmen.
