CLEMENT Y. ARNOLD
A successful funeral director, Clement Y. Arnold is well known in Imperial county in that connection, conducting business in El Centro and at Calexico. He was born at Saint Croix Falls, Wisconsin, November 9, 1896, a son of Dr. Erastus Arnold, who was born in Freeport, Illinois. For a number of years the father enjoyed a large practice as a physician and surgeon and he is now deceased. The mother, Mrs. Eleanor F. (Fletcher) Arnold, is a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and has a family of five children.
Reared in his native state, Clement Y. Arnold obtained a high school education and his initial experience in mortuary work was gained in Minnesota. While a resident of that state he enlisted in the United States Navy for service in the World war, crossing the ocean seven times, and spent seven months in Italy. He was employed in Los Angeles from 1926 to 1930, when he came to the Imperial valley and started in business on his own account at Imperial City, but in October, 1931, removed to El Centro. Here he conducts the Arnold Funeral Home, in which he has installed a beautiful chapel and everything necessary to high grade mortuary service. He maintains a similar establishment in Calexico and is accounted one of the leading funeral directors in this part of the valley.
In 1922 Mr. Arnold was married to Miss Eleanor Gallick, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and they have a son, Clement Y., Jr. Mr. Arnold has not only mastered his line of business but is a radio technician, turning to that occupation for diversion and recreation. He is worthy president of the local Aerie of Eagles and also has fraternal relations with the Local Order of Moose and Imperial Lodge, No. 390, Free and Accepted Masons. He likewise belongs to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and its social branch, the 40 and 8 Society.
