1924 Escalon CA

Union High School

Yearbook.

Most of the names are based on printed material in the yearbook. In some cases, students entered autographs and they were not otherwise listed in the printed materials. These individuals are identified by an * (asterick). For the most part the signatures are reasonably readable (the penmanship teachers of that era are to be complimented), but in a couple of cases we had a "stylist" so I did the best I could. The numbers indicate the year group the individual was in; '24 meaning 1924 and the senior class, '25 meaning 1925 and the junior class, etc. These were derived from either print or the autographs where most listed their class. The place of birth info is based on a short table that is included in the yearbook.

There is not much else in the yearbook of genealogical interest. There are individual pictures with names for the seniors but the other classes are as groups with no names identifying individuals. There are a few pictures of sports teams and clubs, again without names.

Following the student list, I've included a list of the yearbook sponsors with what appear to be "family" names and local to Escalon (others from Stockton and Modesto are not included). It's interesting to note the correlation in several instances between the student list and sponsor list.

One of the more interesting autographs is an Ernest Gallo.  Based on some research, it appears this was THE Ernest Gallo.

My understanding (I can't find confirmation) is that this yearbook is now housed at the Escalon branch of the San Joaquin County Library System.

Have fun
