Biographies
GUY E. WENTWORTH
One of the foremost citizens of Eldorado county is Guy E. Wentworth, resident vice president of the Bank of America branch at Placerville, California. He has gained a well merited reputation through his skillful conduct of banking affairs, and he likewise performed efficient service for Eldorado county in the capacities of deputy county clerk and of treasurer. Mr. Wentworth is a native of this county, born at Georgetown, February 26, 1874, his parents being Nathan and Mary (Marlatt) Wentworth. Nathan Wentworth, one of the prominent early mining men of this vicinity, came to California by way of the isthmus of Panama in 1861 and spent many years in the old mining camps, most of the time at Dutch Flats. He was well known throughout the entire California mining territory.
Guy E. Wentworth received his education in the public schools of Eldorado county and in a business college. For a period of fifteen years he worked in and about the gold mines and quartz mines of the mother lode country, but eventually left the mines to accept the position of deputy county clerk, which place he filled most acceptably to all concern. Four years later he was elected treasurer of Eldorado county, and was the incumbent for two years, when he resigned for the purpose if becoming associated with the bank of A. Mierson & Company. He was promoted in this institution to the position of cashier, then vice president, and when the bank was purchased by the Bank of America he received the title of resident vice president, which he retains at present.
Mr. Wentworth was married to Miss Venita Holliday, who is also ascended from the pioneer families of Eldorado county. They have become the parents of two sons, namely: Howard E., who has followed surveying; Ted A. Wentworth, who is attending Heald’s Business College of Sacramento.
Mr. Wentworth is a republican in political adherence, and is active in fraternal and club life. He manifested a helpful interest in the work of the Chamber of Commerce, of which he was president for two years, and taking a leading part in civic affairs, serving at the present time as city treasurer of Placerville. He is a member of the Masonic order, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Native Sons of the Golden West and the Lions Club. His diversions in life are hunting and fishing.
