Biographies
CLARENCE L. SCHEIBER
Among Eldorado county’s energetic, capable and successful
business men is numbered Clarence L. Scheiber, who
conducts a general mercantile business at Shingle Springs. He was born in
Pleasant Valley, Eldorado county, on the 13th
of October, 1897, and is a son of Louis J. and Bertha (Schneider) Scheiber. The father was born in Switzerland, a son of
Joseph and Josephina (Gusch) Scheiber,
and is now a successful merchant in Diamond Springs, Eldorado county. The maternal grandfather, Henry Schneider, came
across the plains to California many years ago and was one of the first meat
dealers in this section of the state.
Clarence L. Scheiber attended
the district schools at Diamond Springs and the high school at Placerville,
graduating from the latter in 1916. He went to work for the Southern Pacific
Railroad, being employed at office work in Butte county
for two years. He next became connected with Rosenburg
Brothers, wholesale fruit packers and dealers, and in 1920 bought his present
business in Shingle Springs. He carries a large and well selected stock of
general merchandise, has made a number of valuable improvements in his property
and commands a large trade throughout this section of the county. He is also
serving as assistant postmaster at this place.
Mr. Scheiber was united in
marriage to Miss Irene P. Barrette, a member of one of the old and well known
families of this section of the state. They are the parents of two children, Elwyn and Ernest. Mr. Scheiber
gives his political support to the democratic party
and takes a live interest in local public affairs. He belongs to the Free and
Accepted Masons, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Ancient Egyptian Order
of Sciots, the Native Sons of the Golden West and
various local civic organizations. He is fond of outdoor sports, particularly
of fishing and baseball, and is a man of genial disposition and sincere manner,
enjoying well merited popularity throughout this locality.
