FRANK B. RICHARDS
Frank
B. Richards, the owner of the Arcade Bakery, at Placerville, has built up a
large and prosperous business on the basis of the superior quality of his
products and painstaking attention to the wants of his patrons. He was born in El Dorado, this state, on the
19th of April, 1889, and is a son of James and Mary Louise (Barnett)
Richards. The father, a native of
England, came to California in young manhood and engaged in mining. Several years later he returned to his native
land to wed the sweetheart of his youth and brought her back to California with
him. He became well known as a mining
engineer, and was connected with a number of the most important mines in this
and several other western states. Later
in life he quit engineering and was engaged in the grocery business for several
years. His death occurred in
Placerville, in June, 1930, and his widow is still living at that place. Further reference is made to Mr. Richards in
a separate sketch on other pages of this work.
Frank
B. Richards received a high school education and after leaving school was
associated with his father in the grocery business at Placerville, during which
time he also attended night school. When
the United States entered the World War he enlisted in the air service and,
after preliminary training, was sent to France, where he was on duty for ten
months. On returning to his country he
was honorably discharged. The grocery
store having been sold, he looked around for a suitable business opening. In 1920 he bought his
present business, the Little Arcade Bakery, in the management of which he is
ably assisted by his wife. They
have six employees, all skilled in their line, and they carefully maintain the
quality of their products, so that they have built up a large business
throughout El Dorado County.
Mr.
Richards was married to Miss Frances W. Wickham, who was born and reared in
Alameda County. Mr. Richards is a
Republican in his political views and is a member of the American Legion. Sincere and friendly in manner, he is well
liked wherever known and greatly esteemed among his associates.
