PETER J. HALL

Peter J. Hall, one of the most enterprising and public-spirited men of El Dorado County, is a well known fruit grower, and now county supervisor of district No. 1.  Mr. Hall has made a success of his agricultural activities, but has never lost sight of his duties as a citizen, and has displayed a marked interest in the general development of the county, being particularly interested in the improvement of highways and county roads.

Peter J. Hall was born on a farm in the state of Wisconsin, April 4, 1868, and is a son of the late Michael and Agnes (Jaeger) Hall.  His father and mother were both pioneers of Wisconsin, and the former was a farmer and cabinetmaker by trade.  Peter J. Hall attended the rural schools of his native state, and when less than eighteen years of age started for the great west to seek his fortune.  He passed one year in Oregon, then went by sailing vessel to San Francisco.  He spent two years at Benicia, California, and then engaged for eighteen years in lumbering and mining in El Dorado and Nevada counties.  His experiences in this line were many and varied, but his participation in the business was ended by an accident, when he was injured by a fall into a mining shaft.

In 1892, accordingly, he came to Placerville to make his permanent home, and to plant his first orchard.  He has had success in fruit growing, and has won a most desirable reputation in his home county.  In politics he is a Democrat, and is now serving his second term as supervisor of county district No. 1.  He has also been city marshal of Placerville, and was license collector from 1910 until 1924.  He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Foresters of America.

Mr. Hall was married to Miss Julia C. Allen, of Ohio, was came to California in 1887 and settled at Truckee.  They have one daughter, Lydia, who is the wife of Richard F. Jose, a salesman of San Francisco.
