ROLLAND ROSCOE GUST

Among the younger business men of El Dorado County, California, a prominent figure is Rolland Roscoe Gust, who is the owner of the modern Diamond Spring Garage at Diamond Spring, and one of the most progressive and successful of the citizens of this community.  A native of California, he was born in Fresno County, November 29, 1903, a son of John A. and Marian (Tether) Gust.  The father was born in Germany, and went to San Francisco in 1886.  After a short stay there, he settled at Fresno, but is now living with his son, Rolland R., at Diamond Spring.  The mother is deceased.

Rolland R. Gust attended the common schools, and then learned the garage business as an apprentice in Fresno, after which he engaged in the automobile business in that city with a partner, but in 1926 sold his interests there in order to move to the town of El Dorado.  After one year at El Dorado, he came to Diamond Spring and established his garage business.  In the conflagration of April 7, 1930, which destroyed the business section of Diamond Spring, Mr. Gust’s garage was consumed by the flames.  Undaunted, however, he immediately began to rebuild, and his new establishment is modern and conforms to the latest accommodation of garage structures.  He has an up-to-date shop to take care of all types of repair work, and carries a full line of automobile supplies, with a service station to supply his customers with gasoline and oil.

Mr. Gust was married to Miss Lora Melchior of El Dorado County, a member of an old pioneer family, her grandfather having come to this county in the early ‘50s.  Mr. and Mrs. Gust have two children, William R. and John E.  Mr. Gust is independent in political matters, and his fraternal affiliation is the Fraternal Order of Eagles.  Hunting and fishing are his favorite diversions.
