FRED F. FISHER
Fred
F. Fisher, of Placerville, is one of the best known general contractors in El
Dorado County, where he has been engaged in business for the past thirty-five
years and has won an enviable place in public esteem. He was born in Elk Grove, Sacramento County,
California, on the 3rd of April, 1872, and is a son of P. D. and
Angie (Dewey) Fisher. In 1850, at the
age of seventeen years, the father left Michigan and crossed the plains to
California. For a while he gave his
attention to mining, after which he returned to Michigan, was married, and
brought his bride to the coast. He
located in Elk Grove, but later sold out there and went to Sutter County. In 1888 he came to El Dorado County and
during his early years did much freighting in the mountains. He and his wife died in 1908.
Fred
F. Fisher received his educational training in the public schools of Pleasant
Grove, after which he took a commercial course in the Healdsburg Business College. He learned the carpenter trade, and also
tried mining, but with indifferent success.
He was employed as a carpenter in San Francisco and Sacramento, and
about thirty-five years ago came to Placerville. Here he has since engaged in contracting and
has erected many of the best homes, as well as warehouses and other buildings
of the city. He owns a well equipped
woodworking and cabinet shop, in which he produces his own interior finish, and
steadily employs eight men. He is
probably the best known contractor in El Dorado County and his success has been
commensurate with his efforts and diligence.
He does well whatever he undertakes, is honorable in all of his business
affairs, and enjoys the public confidence.
Mr.
Fisher was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Hunger, a native of this state,
and to them were born two children, Elwyn, was associated with his father in
business, but died at the age of twenty-seven years, and Freda, who died in
infancy. Mr. Fisher gives his support to
the Democratic Party and shows a commendable interest in the welfare of his
community. He is a member of the Knight
of Pythias, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Loyal Order of Moose. Hunting and fishing are his favorite outdoor
sports. He is straightforward and sincere
in all of his relations with his fellowmen and is recognized as one of
Placerville’s best citizens.
