WILHOIT, Roley Early, banker (deceased 1922); b. Jefferson County, Ky., Mar. 1, 1839; s. Julius and Lucy (Ewell) W.' ed. pub. schs., Kansas and Ill., m. Delia Dwelly, of Machias, Maine, Oct. 7, 1861; m. 2nd, Janet French Tilton, of St. Johns, New Brunswick, Dec. 11, 1873 (dec.); children-George Ewell (dec.), Eugene Lovell, Arthur, Alice (dec.), Mary (Mrs. Hodgkins), Elsie (Mrs. Hodgkins), Roley (dec.). Mr. Wilhoit crossed the plains in 1850, and after engaging in mining he formed the Wilhoit Abstract Company of Stockton. He was one of the organizers of the Stockton Savings & Loan Bank, and was president and director of that institution until 1916, and a director until his death. His public services included membership of the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors: councilman of Stockton, 1870-73; President of Stockton Board of Education; County Recorder of San Joaquin County, and Trustee of the State Normal School at San Jose. He was a former member of the Yosemite Club, Stockton, and one of the organizers of the Society of California Pioneers, and was on Odd Fellow, a Mason and a member of the Knights of Pythias. In politics he was a Republican, and as an adherent of the Episcopal Church was senior warden of St. John's Episcopal Church, Stockton, for more than sixty years. Home was at Stockton.

 

WILHOIT, George Ewell, realtor, ins. co. official (deceased 1921); b. Stockton, Calif., Mar. 17, 1863; s. Roley Early and Delia (Dwelly) W.; ed. pub. schs. and bus. coll., Stockton; m. Jessie Lee Woods, of Stockton, Oct. 2, 1890; 1 son, John Newton. Mr. Wilhoit was associated with his father for many years in the capacity of vice president of the Wilhoit Abstract & Title Company, Stockton, and in his earlier years was a member of the staff of the bank of Charles R. Bishop, Honolulu, T.H. He was active in all civic and charitable movements, and also in World War work. His recreation was golf, and during his lifetime he was a member of the Yosemite Club, B.P.O. Elks, I.O.O.F., the Pioneers of California and the Native Sons of the Golden West, Stockton. His political affiliations were with the Republican party, and he was an adherent of the Episcopal Church and active in the support is its work. Home was at 47 Acacia St., Stockton.

 

WILHOIT, Jessie Lee (Mrs. George Ewell Wilhoit), clubwoman; b. Acampo, San Joaquin County; d. John Newton and Annie Victoria (Farmer) Woods; ed. pub. schs. Stockton; Mills Seminary, grad. 1887; m. George Ewell Wilhoit, of Stockton, Oct. 2, 1890 (dec.); 1 son, John Newton Wilhoit. Mrs. Wilhoit is a Trustee of the College of the Pacific, Stockton; a member of the Children's Day Nursery and the Children's Home, Stockton; Nineteenth Century and Mills clubs, Stockton; Women's City, Western Women's and Mills clubs of San Francisco. She is first vice president of the Mills Club, San Francisco, and was for several years president of the Mills Club, Stockton. Mrs. Wilhoit is a Republican, and in point of years of membership is the oldest member of the Grace Methodist Church of Stockton.
