Biographies
GLENN THEODORE SEABORG
Glenn Theodore Seaborg was born in
Received his A.B. degree in Chemistry from the University of
California at Los Angeles, 1934; Ph.D., Chemistry, University of
California, Berkeley, 1937; and D.Sc. (honorary), University of Denver,
Colorado, 1951.
During his
career he has been research associate working with Professor
Gilbert N. Lewis, College of Chemistry, University of California, Berkeley
(1937-39); instructor, Department and College of Chemistry, University of
California (1939-41); assistant professor, Department and College of Chemistry,
University of California (1941-45); (on leave from University of California)
Research Chemist at Metallurgical Laboratory, University of Chicago (1942-46);
professor, Department and College of Chemistry, and director of Division of
Nuclear Chemistry, Radiation Laboratory, University of California
(1945-present).
He is a
member of the American Chemical Society, American Association for the
Advancement of Science, Sigma Xi, Fellow of American Physical Society, Phi Beta
Kappa, Alpha Chi Sigma, Phi Lambda Upsilon (honorary member, 1948), American
National Academy of Sciences, Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences,
American Institute of Chemists (honorary member, 1952), Royal Society of Arts
(England), and the American Philosophical Society.
Married Helen Lucille Griggs on June 6, 1942 in Pioche,
Nevada. They have four children: Peter Glenn, born
May 31, 1946; Lynne Annette, born September 6, 1947; David
Michael, born April 22, 1949; and Stephen Keith, born
August 14, 1951.
