ROY O. TABLER
ROY O. TABLER.—A successful
blacksmith and horseshoer of Chico, Roy O. Tabler, like many other enterprising business men, has by
his own unaided efforts made a success in life. His father, Thomas J., was
an eastern man who removed to Kansas, where he engaged in the cattle business
both as dealer and stock-raiser. He died at Great Bend, Kans. Mr. Tabler’s mother, Mary S. (Huffman) Tabler,
a resident of Great Bend, was the mother of nine children.
Roy O. Tabler
was born in 1888, in Osborne County, near Osborne City, Kans., where he was
educated in the public school. At the age of thirteen he was apprenticed to
W. H. Buschman, a blacksmith and horseshoer of Great Bend, Kans. After three years’ service
he was admitted to a partnership which lasted for one year, with a shop at
Seward, when he sold his interest to his former employer and partner, Mr. Buschman. Returning to Great Bend, he started a general
blacksmithing and horseshoeing business on his own account. A flourishing
business was the result of this venture, which he sold at a good profit at the
expiration of two years.
He came to Chico, Butte County, Cal., on
February 19, 1912, where he was employed in the horseshoeing business by
Dr. Jackson for four years. At the end of that time he entered into
partnership with Major T. H. Barnard, purchasing the business of
Dr. Jackson, his former employer. In August, 1916, the shop was completely
destroyed by fire, and the partnership was dissolved. Mr. Tabler then started in business for himself at his present
location, 108 Main Street, where he has been very successful. He makes a
specialty of horseshoeing, and because of his excellent work has
an ever-increasing number of pleased patrons. Mr. Tabler
was married at Great Bend, Kans., to Miss Daisy Simpson, who was born there.
