JOSEPH SOUBIROU
JOSEPH SOUBIROU.—The enterprising
manager of the French-American laundry of Chico, Joseph Soubirou,
was born in Oloron, Basses-Pyrénées,
France, on August 23, 1884. He was raised on his father’s farm, and
received his education in the public schools of his native land, after which he
served for one year in the French army, being enrolled in the Eighteenth
Regiment of Infantry. After the expiration of his period of service, he
remained with his father until 1910, when he embarked for America and came to
San Francisco.
Soon after his arrival in America, Mr. Soubirou entered the laundry business, an enterprise in
which, by personal industry and the application of modern business methods, he
has since won a marked degree of success. In 1916, he came to Chico and
purchased an interest in the French-American Laundry, where he is carrying on a
prosperous and growing business. The laundry is located at 741 Broadway, and is
a modern establishment, equipped with the latest machinery. It has steam
boilers and is supplied with both electric and gas power. It maintains an auto
system of delivery, thus facilitating the work of collection and distribution.
Mr. Soubirou is one of the three partners in the
company, and is manager of the business. He is an enterprising and
public-spirited business man; and his courtesy and square-dealing have already
won for him a high place in the esteem of the community, and have contributed
materially to the growth of his business. In politics, Mr. Soubirou supports the candidates of the Republican party.
