AUGUST CLAUS SCHOOF
AUGUST CLAUS SCHOOF.—In August
Claus Schoof we find the best possible demonstration
of the development of those characteristics of sterling worth that pertain to
the German people. Germans make good citizens and Mr. Schoof
is no exception to the rule. A native of Hanover, Germany, born
January 9, 1872, he has taken out his papers of naturalization and is
a true patriot to the land of his adoption.
In 1888, a young lad of sixteen, he came
to America with several companions, spending the first winter at Bangor, Cal.
From there he came to Honcut, where he married Miss
Eva Sevey, a native daughter of Honcut.
Four interesting children were born of this union: Albert, a young man serving
in the United States Naval Reserve; Mildred; John, and George. John and Mildred
are attending Gridley high school.
Mr. Schoof’s
habits of industry and frugality have resulted in success far above the average
man. He is the owner of one hundred ten acres of land north of Honcut, and in addition to this he rents three hundred
twenty acres more. All of his land is in grain and hay. He is a young man of
sterling worth, large and manly, with the faculty of making friends; a hard
worker, frugal and intelligent, he has an able helpmeet in his excellent wife.
Fraternally he was made a Mason in Oroville Lodge, No. 103,
F. & A. M. He is public-spirited and enterprising, ready to
do his part in the upbuilding of the community and is
well and favorably known, and with his family is respected by all who know
them.
