DON. B. ROBB

DON. B. ROBB.—A conscientious and efficient public officer, whose willingness to serve is appreciated more and more by his fellow citizens, and who has so administered the affiairs [sic] of his trust that his office has become one of the best-kept in the state, is Don. B. Robb, the popular postmaster of Gridley, who was born at West Point, Neb., on April 8, 1870. When six years old, he was taken to Vancouver, in Clarke County, Wash., and there he attended both the grammar and the high schools. He also profited much by courses at a business college, after which he embarked in newspaper work.

At the age of twenty, Mr. Robb was employed as manager of the Western World, of South Bend, Wash., and followed the career of a journalist in that state and in Oregon until 1892, when he came to California and worked as a compositor on the Sacramento Bee, and the Sacramento Union. In 1895, he established the Marysville Times and moved the same to Oroville in 1896, and started the Butte County Times; later it was moved to Honcut, Butte County. The paper is now being published in Gridley. He also established in Gridley, in 1906, the Daily Globe, and is the sole owner of the same.

An active and leading Democrat whose counsels have been of value to his party, Mr. Robb was appointed postmaster of Gridley in December, 1916, and he is still serving his community to the satisfaction of everybody. Mr. Robb was formerly Justice of the Peace of Honcut, and also at Gridley, and when appointed Postmaster he was City Recorder of Gridley.

Among the best social “mixers” in the county, Mr. Robb is very much of a fraternal man. He is now Past Chancellor Commander of the Uniform Rank of Knights of Pythias, and Past Dictator of the Loyal Order of Moose. He is a Modern Woodman, a Royal Neighbor, belongs to the Fraternal Brotherhood, is a Son of Veteran, an American Yeoman, and is also a member of the Pythian Sisters. As a public-spirited citizen, he is a charter member of the Gridley Chamber of Commerce; and, while always an active worker there was the Chamber’s last president.

Mrs. Robb before her marriage was Ella M. Lawton, of Wisconsin, and she also is active in fraternal orders. She belongs to the Pythian Sisters, the Women’s Relief Corps and the W. C. T. U., and is an attractive, efficient member of local society, enjoying a high degree of popularity.
