J. FRANK LOGUE
J. FRANK LOGUE.—A descendant of one of the pioneer families of Butte County, J. Frank Logue was born on the old Logue place, six miles north of Oroville, on December 20, 1875. His father, William Logue, was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, in 1833, and came to New York City in 1846, where he was employed until 1854, when he came via the Nicaragua route to San Francisco, making his way to Butte County. He engaged in placer-mining at Oregon City until 1856, when he located on the ranch still owned by the family. Here he built his home and made improvements, following farming and stock-raising as well as placer-mining on the place. For some years he also operated the Monte de Oro placer mine just north of the Banner Mine, but finally gave it up. William Logue was married in San Francisco in 1860, being united with Miss Mary Diamond, born in County Derry, Ireland, in December, 1837. She came to San Francisco via the Isthmus of Panama, on the Orizaba, in 1859, with her aunt, Mrs. Scullion. The elder Logue was trustee of Oregon City school district for some years. He died in June, 1904, and is survived by his wife, who makes her home on the old ranch, which is looked after and operated by the son, J. Frank. There were seven children born to this worthy couple, six of whom grew up, namely: J. P., with the Natomas Dredging Company at Folsom; Mary and W. E., who reside on the home farm; Henry M. died in 1895; John is with a dredging company at Redding; and J. Frank, of this review.
J. Frank Logue received his education in the Oregon City district schools and from a lad assisted his father and learned the stock business, giving it very close attention, so it is little wonder that when his father died he took charge of the place and has operated it ever since. The Logue ranch comprises five hundred sixty acres, located on the tributary of Oregon Gulch; it is well watered, and is devoted to raising cattle and to farming. Mr. Logue is interested in the cause of education and is a trustee and clerk of the Oregon City school district. He also served a term as trustee of the Oroville Union High School. In national politics he is a Democrat and he is a member of the County Democratic Central Committee.
