JAMES THEODORE HENDERSON
JAMES THEODORE HENDERSON.-- Prominently identified with mining and agricultural interests in Northern California, in his lifetime, James T. Henderson, now deceased, was a man well liked by his associates in both business and social life. He was a native of Missouri, born February, 1867, and a son of Franklin and Josephine (Taylor) Henderson, natives respectively of Missouri and Tennessee, who came to Butte County, Cal., when James Theodore was a child, the father dying when the son was seven or eight years of age. A few years later the mother was married to Hezekiah Carmack and her sketch appears on another page of this work.
After completing the public schools James T. Henderson became interested in mines and mining. He followed different mining strikes in California and Nevada, prospecting and locating mines, finally, some years ago, locating on his ranch of one hundred sixty-one acres on the Shasta Road, where he engaged in general farming, raising grain and alfalfa. In Santa Rosa, Cal., August 29, 1914, he was married to Miss Isabelle Small, a native of London, Ontario, daughter of James and Elizabeth (Whyte) Small, natives of England and Ontario, respectively. Isabelle Small was a graduate nurse from the Passavant Memorial Hospital, Chicago, and came to California in 1909, where she practiced her profession until her marriage.
Mr. Henderson died July 11, 1916. In religion he was a believer in the doctrines of the Christian Church, which he attended. In politics he was a Republican. Since the death of her husband Mrs. Henderson has continued to operate the ranch, raising grain and alfalfa. She is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chico and a member of the Ladies’ Society of that church. She is a broad-minded, liberal, open-hearted woman, ever considerate of those who have been less fortunate than herself.
