WILLIAM M. HAUGH

 

 

      W. M. HAUGH.-- Among the native sons who are engaged in farming in the southern part of Butte County, we mention W.M. Haugh, who was born near Marysville, in Yuba County, The son of John and Catherine ( Costello) Haugh, who migrated from Iowa to California in 1859, crossing the plains with Ox teams and wagons, bring their three children with them. John Haugh engaged in farming in Yuba County near Marysville, later moving into Sutter County, where he farmed until he located to a farm four miles south of Gridley, on the Butte and Sutter County line. Here he owned and improved his farm which he operated with his sons until his death, in 1908, aged eight-two years. His wife had preceded him many years before in 1876, aged forty-two years. Of the seven children to them only six are living. W.M. being the fourth in order of birth.

      W.M. attended public Schools in Yuba and Sutter County. And from a lad made himself useful on the farm driving the teams in the grain field and helping to harvest the Crops. In 1882 the family located to the ranch four miles south of Gridley; where he farmed with his father until the latter’s death, since which time he has continued farming on his own account. He owns one hundred and sixty acres of valuable land in Butte County. Four miles south of Gridley, which he is devoted to raising Grain and Alfalfa. Mr. Haugh is a liberal and enterprising man, aiding in movements that tends towards the improvements and development of the Community. In National Politics, he is a Democrat.
