LOUIS GLASS FAULKNER
LOUIS GLASS FAULKNER.--There are many able representatives of the bar in
California who stand high in their profession because of deep studies of the
best authorities on law; and among these eminent men is Louis Glass Faulkner,
of Chico, where he was born on August 10, 1874, a son of Charles and Mary
MacDonald (Tilden) Faulkner, natives of Ireland and Philadelphia respectively,
a review of whose lives appears on another page in this work. Louis Glass
Faulkner was reared in Chico and educated in the public schools here and in
Oakland, in which city he graduated from the high school in May, 1894, after
which he entered the University of California. He was graduated from the law
department of the university in 1899, with the degree of LL.B., and soon after
opened an office and began the practice of his profession in his native city,
Chico. He was successful from the start, and is now enjoying a large clientele.
At Santa Cruz, Mr. Faulkner was united in
marriage with Miss Anita Blake Cosby, a native of Chico and a daughter of Gen.
George B. Cosby. General Cosby was a Kentuckian, a graduate of West Point, and
served in the Confederate army as a brigadier general. With his wife, formerly
Miss Antonia Johnson, of Louisville, he came to California, and was a farmer at
Cosby Ranch, west of Chico. He served as adjutant general of California, and
held other government positions, including that of Indian agent. Mrs. Cosby now
resides in Sacramento. Two children blessed the marriage of Mr. and Mrs.
Faulkner: Antonia Blake and Elsie Ethel. The family reside
at the old Faulkner home at the corner of First and Sycamore Streets.
Mr. Faulkner is interested in
horticultural pursuits, and for years has derived much pleasure from looking
after and developing the orchards started by his father. He was made a Mason in
Chico Lodge, No. 111, F. & A. M., of which he is Past
Master. He is a Democrat in national politics, and for one term served
as city attorney of Chico. He belongs to the Phi Delta Phi and the Zeta Psi fraternities. He and his family belong to the Episcopal
Church, and he was the first secretary of the original Episcopal mission of
Chico. In all matters having for their object the well-being of the citizens of
Chico, Mr. Faulkner is a leader.
