FRANK L. ENTLER

FRANK L. ENTLER.A native son of Butte County, Frank L. Entler was born near Chico, October 29, 1872. His father, Joseph F. Entler, a pioneer of Butte County, is represented on another page in this work. Frank L. received his education in the public schools of Chico, Woodman’s Academy, and Chico State Normal School, after which he entered Stanford University, graduating in 1897 from the electrical engineering course. Following in the line of his studies, he had charge of dredgers on Bear River for W. P. Hammon.

Mr. Entler was married in Oakland, February 19, 1902, being united with Miss Mary Bennett, a native daughter, born on the old Isaac Bennett ranch four miles north of Chico. Her father, Isaac Rugg Bennett, was a New Yorker who, with his father, was an early settler in Butte County, crossing the plains in 1859. For a time he followed mining in Nevada but soon purchased land north of Chico and became a successful and prominent farmer. His ranch of three hundred fifty-six acres was located on the Shasta road, and there he died, in 1879. Fraternally he was a Mason of the Knight Templar degree. His wife was Cynthia Shear, who was born in Schenectady, N. Y., coming to Butte County with her parents via Panama. Her father was Alanson Shear, who settled on Dry Creek, where he was a farmer and stockman. Some years after the death of Isaac R. Bennett his widow married S. H. Brown and moved to San Francisco. She survived Mr. Brown, and died in 1892. Of the union of Isaac Bennett with Cynthia Shear three children were born, Mrs. Entler being the eldest and the only one to reach maturity. She received her education in Denman Grammar School, San Francisco, and Snell Seminary, Oakland, from which she was graduated in 1893, after which she attended the Chico State Normal, graduating in 1897.

After some time in charge of dredgers on Bear River, Mr. Entler resigned and located in Chico, engaging in business until he died, on October 29, 1903. He was made a Mason in Chico Lodge, No. 111, F. & A. M., was exalted to the Royal Arch degree in Chico Chapter, No. 42, R. A. M., and knighted in Chico Commandery, No. 12, K. T.

Since her husband’s death, Mrs. Entler divides her time between Chico and Oakland. She owns the old Isaac Bennett ranch on the Shasta road, north of Chico, which is devoted to grain-raising. She is a member of Josephine Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, of Chico.
