DURHAM
MILLING CO.
DURHAM
MILLING CO.—On March 30, 1895, the Durham Milling Co. was organized, with
the following officers: W. W. Durham, president; Peter Jones, vice-president;
Wm. Taylor, superintendent and secretary; C. J. Burdick, treasurer. William Taylor, who built the first mill at Durham,
in 1895, was the first miller, and remained in that position until he died, in
1913. The first mill was a one-stone
burr steam mill; this was destroyed by fire, and the present structure, with a
steam roller process, was built in 1900.
In 1914 Mr. Miller became head miller, succeeding Mr. Taylor. This mill is conveniently located, in the
heart of a wheat and barley country, and situated on the Southern Pacific
Railway, with switch-tracks to suit its growing business. Two excellent brands of flour are
manufactured, the Harvest Queen and the Forest Oak, which have maintained a
high standard.
