FRED ADOLPH DUENSING

FRED ADOLPH DUENSING.—Fred Adolph Duensing was born at Hamilton, near Oroville, Butte County, December 4, 1874. His father, Henry Duensing, was born in Germany, coming when he was a young man to Texas, where he married Theressa Betts. In the pioneer days they crossed the plains to California, where he followed mining in Butte County, at Cherokee, and on the different forks of the Feather River. Both he and his wife died at Yankee Hill. They had seven children, as follows: George, deceased; Mattie, Mrs. Armbruster, resides at Yankee Hill; Frank resides near Pentz; Fred Adolph, the subject of this review; Gussie, Mrs. H. F. King, of Los Angeles; John living in Roseville; and Edward H., of Oroville.

Fred Adolph was reared in the mining region of Cherokee, Pentz, and Yankee Hill, attending the Public Schools of the latter district, when he was fifteen he began working on farms, making his own way, and learning to ride, rope and brand, incidental to cattle–raising. About fifteen years ago he started with a very small herd of cattle, which grew until, in 1908, he leased the present place, the old Knox Ranch of three hundred twenty acres at Pentz, his brand being F D on the right hip. Aside from cattle, he also raises four hundred to five hundred Turkeys each year.

Mr. Duensing was married in Oroville, to Eva Bennum, a native of Oregon, and they have two children, Genevieve and Freda. For many years Mr. Duensing has been the efficient road overseer at Pentz, formerly under E. C. Wilson, and now under Supervisor H. W. White. Mr. Duensing is a member of the Cherokee Lodge, No. 92, I. O. O. F., of which he is Past Grand, being a man who is favorably and well known in his community.
