ELWOOD V. DE RUCHIE

 

 

      E. V. DE RUCHIE.—A native son of Butte County, Cal., E. V. De Ruchie was born in Gridley, on January 25, 1895.  His father, J. A. De Ruchie, was born at Cornwall, Ontario, in 1855.  Grandfather John De Ruchie was also born in Ontario of French parents, and was a wagon-maker.  So the son, J. A., learned the trade under his father.  In March, 1875, he came to Nevada, and in the fall of the same year to California.  He resided at different places until 1883, when he located in Gridley and established a wagon-shop where the State Bank now stands.  In 1902, he purchased his present corner and built it up.  He is the pioneer wagon-maker in Gridley, and he has also branched out into the electrical business, handling electrical goods and appliances as well as bicycles and sundries.  J. A. De Ruchie and Martha Elizabeth Cook were married in Santa Cruz.  He has been a member of the board of trustees of Gridley for thirteen years and for seventeen years member and clerk of the board of trustees of the Gridley Union High School.

      E. V. De Ruchie, one of the two children now living of the above union, was educated in the public schools and graduated from the Gridley Union High School in 1913.  During the time of his high school course he began work as an electrician, later doing contract electrical work in Gridley and vicinity, and he became very successful in his line.  In June, 1918, he was appointed superintendent of the Gridley municipal plant, and has charge of  the electrical plant and water works, a position he is well qualified to fill. E. V. De Ruchie was married in Sacramento, being united with Miss Norma E. Boardman, who was born in Pennsylvania.  Mrs. De Ruchie is a graduate of Gridley high school and was a resident of Chico at the time of her marriage.  They have two children, Phyllis and John.  Mr. De Ruchie is a liberal and enterprising man.  Politically he is a Republican.
