HARRY DEIRUP
Harry
Deirup is practicing in Chico as a member of the law firm of Bond & Deirup,
known throughout northern California as attorneys of high standing. He was born in Nebraska, February 6, 1881,
and is a son of John and Marie (Bille) Deirup.
The father came to California in 1904 and lived retired in the Golden
State until his death in 1914. In his
family there were nine children, of whom seven survive.
Reared
in his native state, Harry Deirup attended its public schools and then entered
the University of Nebraska, which numbers him among its alumni of 1901. Following this he took a two years’ course in
Columbia University of New York City, afterward spending a year in the law school of Stanford University of California, and was
admitted to the bar in 1905. For eight
years thereafter he was identified with the legal fraternity of San Francisco
and in 1913 opened an office in Chico.
He remained alone until 1917, when he joined Lon Bond in a partnership
relation that has since been maintained under the style of Bond & Deirup,
constituting one of the foremost law firms of this part of the state. Well versed in the minutiae of the law, Mr.
Deirup accurately applies his knowledge to the points in litigation and his
clear reasoning, logical deductions and forceful arguments carry conviction to
the minds of court and jury.
On
the 10th of June, 1908, Mr. Deirup was married to Miss Ethel
Crandell, a daughter of H. W. and Emma (Delaney) Crandell. The three children of this marriage are
Theodora, who was graduated from Stanford University as a member of the class
of 1930, and Kenneth and Keith, who are attending the Chico high school.
Mr.
Deirup is identified with the Lions Club, the Phi Beta Kappa fraternity and
Chico Lodge of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. In outdoor sports he finds his recreation and
particularly enjoys a game of tennis. He
votes with the Republican Party but has never sought public office as his
attention is concentrated upon the practice of law, and his ability, energy and
devotion to his profession constitute potent factors in his growing success.
