VINCENTE DAL PORTO
VINCENTE DAL PORTO.—A resident of California since 1894 and a successful horticulturist, Vincent Dal Porto was born near Lucca, Italy, May 8, 1871, the son of Gabriel and Filomina Dal Porto, farmers, who died respectively in 1915 and 1907. Of their children, Vincente is the second youngest, and one other brother, Alex, is a farmer in Butte County.
Mr. Dal Porto was reared on the farm in Italy and received a good education in the public schools, after which he assisted his father on the farm until he enlisted in Company 1, Eighth Infantry, serving the required time, and was honorably discharged as corporal. Concluding to cast in his lot with the growing West, he came to California in 1894. He followed farming near Sacramento until December of the same year, when he came to Oroville and was employed in the Gardella Gardens. After two years he engaged in the grocery and vegetable business, in 1896, under the firm name of Dal Porto and Giovanetti, on Montgomery Street, continuing until he sold out to his partner. He then bought a grocery store on Huntoon Street, continuing the business eighteen months, when he sold out. He then purchased a ranch of sixteen and on-half acres in Thermalito and engaged in horticulture, the place being now devoted to raising oranges, figs, small fruits, berries, and now resides at 804 Sixth Street, Oroville.
Mr. Dal Porto’s marriage occurred in Oroville, where he was united with Miss Rose Giovanetti, a native daughter of Oroville, and they have one child, Pauline. He is a member of the Foresters of America.
