PETER W. CUDDEBACK

PETER W. CUDDEBACK.-- That Peter Cuddeback finds his occupation congenial is shown by his enthusiasm and application to all in connection with it.  He was born near Dayton, Butte County, on November 1, 1871.  His father, De Witt Clinton Cuddeback, a veteran of the Civil War, is represented on another page of this work.  Peter Cuddeback lived on a farm, in Butte County, until he was eight years old, when the family moved to Yuba County, where they lived until 1897.  Peter continued his education and assisted with the farm work there.  In 1897, Peter Cuddeback came to Chico and engaged in general contracting and horticulture.  He purchased and set out ten acres of prunes on the Bidwell tract and also bought and set out five acres of almonds at Durham.

On a two-acre tract located on the Esplanade, in Chico, he erected his residence, and set out almonds on nearly all of the remaining plot.  In Mr. Cuddeback's construction work he does general excavating and leveling, and constructs bridges, cement pipe-lines and any concrete works.  Since January, 1912, he has been superintending the construction work on the Stanford University Ranch at Durham, where he has leveled for the planting of rice and alfalfa, and installed concrete work for their irrigation system.

Mr. Cuddeback was married at Dayton, April 19, 1900, to Miss Rose Bassett, a daughter of George and Ellen (Flood) Bassett, early settlers of Butte County, now residing on the coast.  Mr. Cuddeback finds pleasure in his connection with various organizations, being a member of Chico Lodge, No. 113, I.O.O.F., as well as the Encampment of Odd Fellows, and with his wife is a member of the Rebekahs at Chico.  He is also a member of the Woodmen of the World.  His politics are expressed in the Republican party.  Mr. and Mrs. Cuddeback are members of the First Christian Church in Chico.  He is a broad-minded and liberal man and has made many friends who appreciate him for his integrity and worth.
