CHARLES EDGAR BACUS
CHARLES EDGAR BACUS.--The name of
Charles Edgar Bacus is worthy of enrolment in the
history of Butte County as representing a pioneer family and as being connected
with those movements that stand for improvement and uplift. A native of Butte
County, he was born at Nord, June 25, 1879, a son of
Henry David Bacus, a native of Illinois, who migrated
to Ottawa County, Kans., where he lived until 1875, when he once more took up
his journey westward and finally arrived in Butte County, where he followed
ranching. He met with success in his ventures and now is living in Chico, where
he follows the trade of shingler. He married Miss
Hattie McCarger, born in Faribault, Minn., and she
shares with her husband the esteem of a wide circle of friends.
Their only son, Charles Edgar Bacus, was brought up in his native county and received his
schooling in the public schools here and in Oakland, completing his education
at the Oakland Central High School. In 1901 he took up the trade of carpenter
and worked at the building business in Oakland, until 1908. During and after
the great fire in San Francisco he worked in both that city and in Oakland. In
1908 he returned to Chico, where he continued to follow his trade until April,
1913, when he accepted his present position as head janitor at the Chico State
Normal School, which position is combined with that of store-keeper, places in
which he most ably discharges his responsibilities.
Mr. Bacus was
united in marriage, in San Rafael, with Miss Emma Dausey,
a native daughter, who was born in Tehama County; they have two children: Earl
and Edna. Mr. Bacus is a member of Great Oak Camp,
No. 136, W. O. W., of which he is Past Worthy Consul. Politically he is a
stanch Republican. Mrs. Bacus belongs to the Women of
Woodcraft.
