GEORGE MONROE HEATH

George M. Heath, who has served for the past seven years as postmaster at Ione, is a man of excellent business qualifications and is discharging his official duties in a manner that has gained for him the commendation of the patrons of the office.  He was born at Michigan Bar, Sacramento County, California, on the 12th of October, 1885, and is a son of John Wesley and Elizabeth C. (Brown) Heath.  His father crossed the plains with his parents in the early ‘50s and for a half century conducted a mercantile business at Michigan Bar, while for thirty years he was postmaster at that place.  His death occurred December 19, 1917, but his widow survives.

George M. Heath received his educational training in the rural schools and worked on the home ranch until twenty-one years of age.  He then went to Sacramento where for three years he was in the employ of the Wells Fargo Express Company.  Thereafter he worked at various occupations until 1917, when he came to Ione and, entering into a partnership with his brother, engaged in the dairy business, in which they have met with excellent success, having built up a splendid herd of milch cows and a well equipped dairy plant.  Mr. Heath continued with the business actively until 1923, when he received the appointment of postmaster at Ione, which position he is still filling.

Mr. Heath was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Simas, of Latrobe, and they are the parents of two children, Garth Wesley and Violet Margaret.  In his political views he is a Republican and is a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in all of its branches, in which he has passed through the chairs.  Hunting and baseball are his favorite sports and he is interested in everything which concerns the advancement and prosperity of the community.
