WILLIAM GOING
William
Going, a native of Jackson and a resident of this place for sixty-six years,
has been given undisputable evidence of his high standing among his fellow
citizens by his repeated election to the office of justice of the peace, the
duties of which he is discharging in an able and creditable manner. He was born in this city on the 26th
of October, 1864, and is a son of David and Margaret (Joy) Going. His parents came to California by way of the isthmus of Panama, in 1860, and the father engaged in mining
at various places in the Mother Lode until his death, in 1890. He was survived many years by his widow, who
passed away in 1915. They were widely
and favorably known in Amador County. They
became the parents of seven children, of whom five are living.
William
Going was educated in the public schools, after which he followed mining and
farming. For thirty years he served as
janitor of the Amador County Court House, performing his duties in a very
efficient and satisfactory manner. In
1924 he was elected justice of the peace and is now serving his third
term. His decisions have been marked by
a sense of fairness and justice which has gained for him the uniform respect
and confidence of the people of the community.
Mr. Going is a member of the Knights of Columbus at Stockton and has
belonged to the local parlor of the Native Sons of the Golden West for over
thirty years. He is a lover of the
out-of-doors and one of his favorite forms of recreation is hiking in the
hills.
