ALBERT HUBBARD MOFFITT, JR.

 

 

Albert Hubbard Moffitt, Jr., attorney, was born January 4, 1908, in San Francisco, California. Son of Albert Hubbard and Lucile (Smith) Moffitt.

            Graduated from Stanford University in 1929 with the A.B. degree; then attended Hastings Law School, San Francisco, 1931-32; admitted to practice before State and Federal Courts in 1934.

            Mr. Moffitt has been in law practice in Oakland and Alameda, California, since 1935, where he has been a member of the firm of Weinmann, Rode, Burnhill & Moffitt since 1946.

            He is a member of the Board of Directors of Alameda Community Hospital; member of Board of Education, City of Alameda, 1947-50; president of Alameda Council, Boy Scouts of America, 1946-48; member of Advisory Board of Alameda Community Chest, 1947-48; member of Housing Authority, City of Alameda; and president of Oakland Junior Chamber of Commerce, 1940.

            During World War II Mr. Moffitt served as colonel with General Staff Corps, United States Army, 1941-46; colonel with Field Artillery, United States Army Reserve, since 1946. Awarded: Order of the British Empire, 1943; Chevalier of Legion of Honor, and Croix de Guerre with Palm, 1945 (France); Order of the White Lion Class III (Czech), 1946; Gold Cross of Merit with Swords (Poland), 1946; Order of the Crown-Officer grade (Belgium), 1946; Order of the Orange-Nassau, degree of Commander with the Swords (Dutch), 1945; Haakon VII Liberation Cross (Norwegian), 1946; Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, 1945; Army Commendation Ribbon, 1943; American Defense Service Medal, 1941; American Theater Service medal, 1943; Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, 1943; European-African-Middle East Service Medal, 1944; and Victory Medal, German Occupation, 1945.

            Member of the State Bar of California, Alameda County Bar Association; Reserve Officers Association; East Bay Chapter of Stanford Alumni Association (member of Executive Board); Phi Delta Phi, and Kappa Sigma fraternities; and the following clubs: Lawyers of Alameda County, Lake Merritt Breakfast (Oakland); Commonwealth of California (secretary); East Bay Stanford (member of Board of Directors); and Rotary of Alameda, (past president).

            Mr. Moffitt married Barbara Seale on August 18, 1934, and has two daughters, Joan and Nancy. Their home is in Alameda, California, at 911 Grand Street.
