JOHN
RUTHERFORD MILLAR
John
Rutherford Millar, chairman of the Board of National Automotive Fibres, Inc., was born in Oakland, California, January 23,
1887, the son of John Y. and Mary (Rutherford) Millar.
His education was received in the
public school of Alameda, California, and Manchester (England) University
Municipal School of Technology, where he took a textile engineering course,
1906-09.
Mr. Millar became associated with
the California Cotton Mills Company, Oakland, California, in 1909, becoming
assistant to the superintendent, and general manager, 1915-28; vice president,
and in 1943 chairman of the Board, which appointment he filled until 1949 when
the California Cotton Mills Company was merged into National Automotive Fibres, Inc.
In 1928 Mr. Millar organized the
National Automotive Fibres, Inc., Detroit, Michigan,
manufacturers of automobile cushions and trim sets, carpet, cotton goods of
many kinds, etc. President 1928-46; chairman of the Board and president
1947-51; chairman of the Board 1951, which appointment he currently holds.
President of
California Manufacturers Association for eleven years; director of Michigan
Manufacturers Association, and National Association of Manufacturers.
Republican; Mason; member of the
following clubs: Detroit Athletic Club, Detroit, Recess Club, Grosse Pointe
Yacht Club, Economic Club (Detroit, Michigan), Athenian-Nile (Oakland, Calif.),
Prospectors Club (Reno, Nevada), and Bankers Club of America (New York).
Mr. Millar married Margaret Wilson
Cooper March 16, 1909, and has two children, Rutherford Y. and Mary E.
