LEROY R. GOODRICH

 

 

Leroy R. Goodrich, attorney, was born on January 3, 1887, in Buffalo, New York; the son of Herbert L. and Jennie E. Goodrich.

      He graduated from Central High School of Buffalo in 1904; received his A.B. degree from Cornell University in 1908, and came to California to engage in business in 1911. He studied law at the University of California, receiving his LL.B. degree and being admitted to the State Bar of California in 1933. In April, 1943 he was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States. He is now engaged in general practice of the law at Oakland, California.

       Mr. Goodrich’s civic activities include his having been a director of The Children’s Home Society of California since 1924, and its president for five years. From 1934 to 1944 he was a member of the Board of Trustees of Mills College. Since 1930 he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Oakland Scottish Rite Scaife Scholarship Foundation. From 1925 to 1927 he was commissioner of Public Works of Oakland, and in charge of the development of the Port of Oakland; he served from 1931 to 1937 as a member of the Oakland Port Commission. He has been a director of East Bay Regional Park District since it was established in 1934.

       He is a member of the Alameda County Bar Association and the State Bar of California; a member of Kappa Sigma and Phi Delta Phi (legal) fraternities; a Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of Oakland Lions Club.

       Mr. Goodrich married Lina Shaw Hartman, of Buffalo, N.Y. on January 1, 1912, and they have two daughters, Mrs. Virginia G. Cykler of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Mrs. Jean G. Gibson of Salem, Oregon.
