JAMES DUNCAN
Casper
James Duncan, president of C. J. Duncan Company, Realtors, was born February 9,
1905, in David City, Nebraska; the son of Earl Crawford and Emma (Casper)
Duncan.
Attended the public schools in the
small community of Bridgeport, Nebraska, graduating from high school in 1922.
During his school days he held a multitude of jobs and got a lot of good
practical experience. Worked in a grocery store, department
store, newspaper office, as automobile-mechanic, typist-clerk, window trimmer,
show card writer, salesman, and timekeeper.
In 1924 Mr. Duncan moved to Oakland,
California, and secured a job with Elliott Horne Company, dealers in street
improvement bonds. Left that firm in 1930, having risen to the position of
buyer for Northern California Territory, to learn the real estate brokerage
business. Served four years apprenticeship as real estate salesman and opened
his own brokerage business in 1934. He has since devoted his entire time to the
business of selling and developing real estate in Oakland, California, where he
is now president of C. J. Duncan Company, realtors and developers.
Mr. Duncan is president of the
Oakland Real Estate Board, with membership of approximately 1150; past district
vice president of California Real Estate Association; former member of De Molay, 20-30 Club, also of Oakland Junior Chamber of
Commerce. Member of Oakland Chamber of Commerce; B.P.O. Elks
No. 171; Commonwealth Club, Athens Athletic Club and Lake Merritt Breakfast
Club.
On March 17, 1930, Mr. Duncan
married Alice Sommer of Berkeley, California. Their
home is in Lafayette, California, at 1254 Panorama Drive.
