WALTER
CARLETON DEAN
Walter
Carleton Dean, president of Federal Land Bank of Berkeley, was born July 17,
1891, in Oakland, California, the son of Albert Carleton and Margaret Anne
(Thomas) Dean.
He was graduated from the University
of California, Berkeley, in 1915 with the degree of B.S.
Mr. Dean was Soil Technologist for
the College of Agriculture, University of California, Berkeley, from 1915 to
1919; then in charge of the seed department of the California Packing
Corporation, San Francisco, California, from 1919 to 1921. He became associated
with the Federal Land Bank of Berkeley in 1921, serving as chief appraiser
until 1927. He was assistant chief reviewing appraiser for the Farm Loan
System, Washington, D.C., from 1927 to 1929. He was secretary of the Federal
Intermediate Credit Bank of Berkeley from 1929 to 1933. During the same period,
1929 to 1933, he was also secretary of the Federal Land Bank of Berkeley. Since
1934 he has been associated only with the Land Bank, from 1934 to 1944 as vice
president, from 1944 to 1947, executive vice president, and president since
1947.
Member of the
Berkeley (California) Tennis Club and the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco.
Mr. Dean married Salome Ann Mark on
January 5, 1918, and they have one daughter, Flora May.
