CROZIER CORDELL CULP

 

 

Crozier Cordell Culp, attorney, was born in Rosedale, Wyandotte County, Kansas, on July 6, 1897; the son of Lynn W. (attorney, died October 31, 1937) and Ella (Crozier) Culp.

      Attended grammar school in Kansas City, Missouri, and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; graduated in 1915 from Coeur d’Alene (Idaho) High School; entered Stanford University in September of 1915 and continued there until April 12, 1917, when entered United States Navy; released from active duty in Navy as ensign in September of 1919 and re-entered Stanford in October of 1919 and attended there in College of Law until June of 1921; attended University of Idaho Law School, September, 1921, and received the degree of LL.B. in June of 1922; re-entered Stanford in October of 1922 and received the J.D. law degree in June of 1923. Received the B.A. degree from Stanford in 1920.

      Mr. Culp served as deputy in Legislative Counsel Bureau at Sacramento, California, during legislative session of 1923. In 1924 he was employed as a member of the editorial staff of Bancroft-Whitney Law Publishing Company, in connection with publication of California Jurisprudence. In 1924 and 1925 he served on the legal staff of California State Automobile Association in San Francisco, California. From 1925 to the present time he has been engaged in active general practice of law in Oakland, California, with the exception of the period from July, 1942, until August, 1945, during which period he served as lieutenant in the United States Navy during World War II, serving on aircraft carriers and attack transports in the South and Southwest Pacific campaigns, as navigating officer and later on as damage control officer; released from active duty in the Navy as Lieutenant-Commander, which rank he still holds in the Naval Reserve.

      Member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, Gamma Gamma Chapter, University of Idaho; Durant Lodge No. 268, Berkeley, California, F. & A.M.; American Legion, Berkeley Post No. 7; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Emeryville, California, Post; East Bay Stanford Club; Lawyers Club of Alameda County; Alameda County Bar Association, State Bar of California, American Bar Association; and United States Naval Officers Reserve, Volunteer Legal Unit.

      Mr. Gulp married Bethel Martin Collins on July 21, 1923 in San Francisco, California, and was divorced in 1943. He married Beulah Elizabeth Alumbaugh at Astoria, Oregon, on August 12, 1944. Mr. Gulp has one son, Robert Martin, born August 16, 1930, in Oakland, California; graduate of University of Washington College of Dramatic Arts; now starring in New York as lead in “For Crying Out Loud”; won the inter-collegiate Dramatic competition in February of 1952, in the Philip Morris “Broadway Playhouse of the Air.”
