CAMERON CLARK
Dunlap
Cameron Clark, president of Central Bank of Oakland, California, was born in
Chicago, Illinois, on November 24, 1896; son of Russell Smith and Estelle
(Dunlap) Clark.
After attending high school he entered
University of Chicago, from which he graduated in 1917 with the Ph.B. degree.
During World War I Mr. Clark
enlisted as a flying cadet with the Signal Corps; commissioned a lieutenant and
served as flight instructor at the Army Balloon School, Arcadia, California.
After the war he remained in the reserves and attained the rank of major;
resigned in 1938. In World War II he joined as a lieutenant colonel and served
under the budget officer for the War Department; promoted to colonel and was
chief of fiscal branch, Special Planning Division at General Staff level,
Washington, D.C.; awarded the Legion of Merit and also Army Commendation
Ribbon. Now active in Officers Reserve Corps as Colonel,
United States Army.
Mr. Clark’s banking career began in
1920 in association, as an officer, with the Continental Illinois Bank of
Chicago, where he remained until 1933; then president
of The American National Bank of Kalamazoo, Michigan, from 1933 to 1947. Former
director of Fuller Manufacturing Company, Milwaukee & Kalamazoo Saniwax Paper Company, and Wilson-Brinker Company, all of
Kalamazoo, Michigan; president of Kalamazoo Chamber of Commerce for two terms;
national councillor to United States Chamber from
Kalamazoo Chamber of Commerce; former member of Executive Council, American
Bankers Association; director of United States Chamber of Commerce since 1942
and head of its National Defense Committee since 1945. Mr. Clark has been
president of the Central Bank, Oakland, California, since June of 1947; member
of Board of Commissioners, Port of Oakland.
Director of Oakland Chamber of
Commerce, San Francisco Bay Area Council, Oakland Boys Club, Better Business
Bureau, Volunteers of America (Oakland Chapter), and Oakland Community Chest.
Awarded the Citation of Merit by University of Chicago in 1945. Speaker and writer on Public Relations and other banking subjects,
also on Universal Military Training and other national defense topics.
Member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity
(former national trustee); Army & Navy Club of Washington, D.C.; Claremont
Country Club, Athenian-Nile Club, and Athens Athletic Club (Oakland,
California).
Mr. Clark married Elizabeth McFalls on October 29, 1923; two children: Dunlap Cameron,
Jr., age 24 (served in World War II; Junior at Stanford University); Alison,
age 22 (graduate of Stanford University).
