FRED A.
CARPENTER
Fred A. Carpenter,
president of Berkeley Pump Company, was born December 6, 1898 in Minneapolis,
Minnesota; the son of Cecil F. and Marguerite (Howe) Carpenter.
Moved to San Joaquin Valley,
California, at an early age where both formal and practical education was
obtained. A start in engineering field was accomplished by aid of the
“International Correspondence Schools” of Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Carpenter was an engineer for
the Byron Jackson Company, Berkeley, California, from 1919 to 1930; owner of
the Advance Pump Company, Berkeley from 1933 to 1936; and has been president of
Berkeley (California) Pump Company since 1937.
Member of the Berkeley, Sacramento
and Washington (D.C.) Chambers of Commerce; belongs to the Presbyterian Church;
and is a member of the Rotary Club of Berkeley.
Mr. Carpenter pioneered in the
development of what is known as the Jet Type Deepwell
Pump and has made many noteworthy contributions to the art of pumping water. He
has several inventions on both Jet and Turbine Type Deepwell
Pumps, all of which are assigned to the Berkeley Pump Company.
In the year 1933, Mr. Carpenter
married Lana Bates; three children: Robert, Lorraine and Kenneth.
