ALLARD A. CALKINS

 

 

Allard A. Calkins, chairman of the Board of Anglo California National Bank of San Francisco, was born April 26, 1889, in San Francisco, California; the son of John U. and Harriet L. (Bates) Calkins.

            He is a graduate of the University of California (Berkeley), 1912, receiving the B.L. degree in 1911; then took a special course in the study of military science.

            Mr. Calkins was admitted to the California State Bar in 1914 and assisted in the law department of the Associated Oil Company (now Tidewater Associated Oil Company), San Francisco, from 1912 to 1914; then in private practice of the law from 1914 to 1917 and also teacher in the English Department of the University of California, 1914 to 1916. From 1919 to 1928 he was bank officer in all departments for the Security Trust & Savings Bank (now Security First National Bank), Los Angeles; analyst in security field, 1928 to 1930; vice president and trust officer of Pacific National Bank, San Francisco, 1930 to 1932; manager of San Francisco Loan Agency, Reconstruction Finance Corporation, from 1932 to 1940; then became first vice president, director and member of the Executive Committee of the Anglo California National Bank of San Francisco; elected president in 1946 and is now chairman of the Board of same.

            Mr. Calkins is a director and member of Operating Executive Committee of Pickering Lumber Corporation, Standard, California.

            Member of The Newcomen Society, Phi Kappa Sigma and Phi Delta Phi. Having served in Officers’ Reserve Corps, California National Guard, for twenty years, he is a member of the American Legion. Democrat. Protestant. Member of the Pacific-Union Club of San Francisco and Faculty Club, University of California.

            Mr. Calkins married Persis N. Bunker on January 21, 1929, and has three children:  Allard A., Jr., Persis M. and Elizabeth N. (Mrs. Ronald B. Dibble).
