FREDERIC W. STEARNS

 

 

      Frederic W. Stearns is senior member of the firm of Sweet, Stearns & Forward, of San Diego. He is a native of Illinois, and was born in 1867 in Chicago, where he received his preparatory educational training in public schools. He then attended the University of Wisconsin, which conferred on him the degree of A. B. in 1889 and B. L. two years later.

      In 1891 Mr. Stearns was admitted to the Wisconsin bar, but a few months later moved to California, and entered practice in San Diego, specializing in corporation and financial law. In 1909 he went back to Chicago and was General Counsel for H. M. Byllesby & Co., managers of public utilities, for about five years.

      In 1914 Mr. Stearns re-entered practice in San Diego as a member of the firm of Sweet, Stearns & Forward, of which he has been senior member since the death of Mr. Sweet. They are Counsel for such interests as the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe R. R., San Diego Consolidated Gas & Electric Co., Union Trust Co. of San Diego and the San Diego Trust & Savings Bank.

      Mr. Stearns is Vice President of the San Diego Consolidated Gas & Electric Co. and Director of the Union Title Insurance Co., Union Trust Co., First National Bank of San Diego, and San Diego Trust and Savings Bank. He holds membership in the American Bar Association, State Bar of California, and San Diego Bar Association, as well as Phi Delta Phi and Beta Theta Pi fraternities, the Cuyamaca Club and San Diego Country Club, San Diego Athletic Club and San Diego Chamber of Commerce. In 1894 he married Emma V. Drinker, who died in 1914. In 1918 he married Stella K. Wilhelm. There are two children, Florence K. and John W.
