CHARLES WITTORFF

Business enterprise in Encinitas finds a prominent representative in Charles Wittorff, a general contractor and builder, who is also a leader in community affairs.  He was born in McPherson County, Kansas, and in early childhood was brought to the Pacific coast by his parents, Oscar and Elizabeth M. (LeMay) Wittorff, who settled in the southern part of Oregon.  His educational advantages were those afforded by the public school system of Grants Pass and on entering commercial circles he became identified with construction work, which he mastered in principle and detail.  In 1924 he came to California and since 1925 has engaged in general contracting at Encinitas.  Experienced, efficient and thoroughly reliable, he has contributed materially to the development and improvement of this part of San Diego County by the erection of many substantial modern buildings and in eight years has established a business of large proportions.

In 1916 Mr. Wittorff was married at Grants Pass to Miss Frances Roedel, a member of one of Oregon’s pioneer families, and they reside in an attractive home in North Encinitas.  Mrs. Wittorff is a capable businesswoman and figures prominently in the mercantile life of Encinitas as the owner of an up-to-date variety store, which she is successfully conducting.  Fraternally Mr. Wittorff is a Mason, identified with Oceanside Lodge, No. 381, F. & A. M.  In local politics he is a factor of importance and was the first chairman of the Democratic association in this district.  A member of the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce throughout the period of its existence, he was elected a director of that civic body and is now its president.  He loses no opportunity to exploit the resources and advantages of Encinitas and is accounted one of its most loyal and public-spirited citizens.  An alert energetic young businessman, Mr. Wittorff early recognized the value of hard work as a factor in advancement and is deserving of much credit for what he has accomplished.
