Biographies
WILL S. HELLER
A public official of high standing,
Will S. Heller is amply justifying the trust reposed in him as treasurer of San
Diego County and has made his home in the city of San Diego since 1910. He was born in Belleville, Saint Clair
County, Illinois, November 20, 1876, a son of David B. and Ida (Cooper) Heller,
who removed from that state of California, taking up their abode in San Diego,
where the mother is still living. The
father passed away March 29, 1932, at the venerable age of eighty-six years.
In his native village Will S. Heller
was reared and educated, graduating from high school and also completing a
course in a business college. In
response to the call of the west, he came to California in 1909, locating at
San Diego on February 1, 1910, and for some time was identified with the
American Hospital Association. He then
became a wholesale dealer in tea and coffee and through careful, judicious
management built up a profitable business.
On May 10, 1917, Mr. Heller was elected secretary-treasurer of the
Pacific Building Company, which position he resigned on June 30, 1926. Elected county treasurer on the 5th
of January, 1931, he has conscientiously and efficiently discharged his important
duties, proving a capable and safe custodian of the public funds.
At Belleville, Illinois, in 1903,
Mr. Heller was married to Miss Huddie Stookey and they are the parents of a son, Will Stookey Heller, who was born in 1905 and now holds a responsible
position in the San Diego Trust and Savings Bank. Mr. Heller resides with his family at 3350
Fifth Avenue in a desirable home, which he has occupied for twenty-three years,
and his office is in the court house. In
politics he is a strong Republican and has worked for the success of the party,
also lending the weight of his support to all well defined plans and projects
for civic growth and betterment.
Fraternally he is a Mason, affiliated with Silver Gate Lodge, F. &
A. M., of San Diego, of which he is treasurer, and has ever been loyal to the
teachings and purposes of the craft. He
belongs to the Exchange Club, the San Diego Athletic Club and the San Diego
Advertising Club. By nature kindly,
sincere and companionable, Mr. Heller readily wins friends and is known and
esteemed throughout San Diego County.
